Sometimes, it the chefs are out-shined by their judges. Padma Lakshmi, Gail Simmons, Tom Colicchio are the core that started as the resident rulers. Emeril Lagasse, Hugh Acheson and Wolfgang Puck have joined the ranks.
Most of the time it’s the guest judges that steal the moment. Anthony Bourdain‘s atomically accurate mouth comes to mind. He fearlessly and apologetically will say anything that is on his mind.
Tom and Gail are two of my favorites, but Hugh Acheson is also climbing into my heart. He breaks it down for us non-culinary masters…I will never forget, “These grits suck!”
I was thrilled to hear Wolfgang joined the ranks this year! His views on the Fried Chicken challenge were so refreshing. Instead of just throwing out a few criticisms, he, much like Hugh, just speaks the truth. It’s not just a fluke or a one time slip. It’s how he is. I had the pleasure of speaking with Puck and he really is a lighthearted and charming man.
