Seth MacFarlane To Host The Oscars!
It has just been announced that “Family Guy” creator Seth MacFarlane will be hosting the 85th annual Academy Awards!
The announcement was made this morning during the Oscar telecast.
Producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron broke the news saying, “We are thrilled to have Seth MacFarlane host the Oscars.”
“His performing skills blend perfectly with our ideas for making the show entertaining and fresh,” added the producers. “He will be the consummate host, and we are so happy to be working with him.”
It's definitely a breath of fresh air and a step in a bolder direction for the Oscars, who last year had Billy Crystal host the show for about the 100th time.
This could be risky for ABC though. MacFarlane, being the creator of “Family Guy” and “American Dad,” has shown that his comedy can be pretty racy, but perhaps that’s what the show needs to draw in the viewers this year.
In response to the announcement MacFarlane released a statement saying, “It’s truly an overwhelming privilege to be asked to host the Oscars. My thoughts upon hearing the news were, one, I will do my utmost to live up to the high standards set forth by my predecessors; and two, I hope they don’t find out I hosted the Charlie Sheen Roast.”
The Academy Awards will take place Sunday, February 24, on ABC.
This is actually kind of exciting. I might just watch this year… okay no I won’t, but still congrats Seth!
