Review – Snow White and the Huntsman
Beautiful cinematography, acceptably decent performances, but unfortunately, this film is very somber.
The mood comes in Snow White and the Huntsman is not pretty. It’s actually pretty depressing.
Kristen Stewart makes one beautiful Snow White, gentle and virtuous, but there isn’t any substance to the character.
This Rupert Sanders film written by Evan Daugherty, John Lee Hancock, Hossein Amini seems to be more about the queen than the princess.
Charlize Theron is ruthless and memorable as the evil queen and Chris Hemsworth certainly holds his own as the brooding huntsman who mourns his beloved wife, but somehow the film translates utter sadness. It’s a very cold picture. Clearly, not a film for kids.
The dwarfs, in character and physical appearance, don’t seem to be what one would expect and they are not particularly fond of Snow.
On the other hand, characters are as they would be in real life, very realistic, therefore, visually, the film is eye candy.
Why anyone would turn a fairy tale into a depressing psychological drama about a forty something hysterical broad obsessed with offing her stepdaughter, remains a mystery.
On a scale of 1-10 it’s wired at six and really, only because it truly is a visual treat.
