Frank Ocean’s ‘channel ORANGE’ Tops iTunes Chart
Singer Frank Ocean has released his debut album “channel ORANGE” a week early and it’s getting rave reviews!
Ocean created waves (oh wow unintentional pun) last week when he announced that his first love was a man on his Tumblr.
“4 summers ago, I met somebody. I was 19. He was too. We spent that summer, and the summer after, together. Everyday almost. And on the days we were together, time would glide,” wrote Ocean revealing that he is either gay or bisexual.
Because of intense homophobia in the Hip-Hop community and in society in general, many believed Ocean’s statement would negatively affect his album sales.
Well, the Twitter world largely approved of the album and many track titles began trending worldwide last night.
Critics seem to agree, with statements like “Frank Ocean is such a natural talent that he doesn’t need any outside controversy to draw attention to himself,” from All Hip Hop and “The album feels organic, but not retro – a musical leap forward for both Ocean and the genre,” from The Fader.
To top it all off, “channel ORANGE” is now at the top of the iTunes album charts!
The album has a sound all its own. It seems to be a mix of R&B/Soul with Indi-pop and a little bit of a Hip-Hop feel.
“channel ORANGE” will be released to stores next Tuesday, July 17. But you can get it now on iTunes!
