SMART GIRL, BIG JOB, SAFE PLANET: Meet Elissa Sursara

How many people can say they’ve had a Southern Ocean iceberg named after them?

We’d imagine not many, but 24-year-old biologist and celebrity conservationist Elissa Sursara has already added that to her list of impressive achievements.

As a graduate of the prestige Australian National University where she was educated in environmental biology and bio-medical engineering, former child actress Sursara has spent several years forging a lucrative career in the conservation industry, and now, with more than three million fans in her growing fan base, she is considered one of the most influential environmental advocates in the world.

And as though a Southern Ocean iceberg weren’t enough, the young celebrity scientist is tipped for her very own conservation TV series – making her the youngest person in history to spear head their own expert television project.

Sursara’s collaborations with the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, Tiger Time Now, The Black Fish, the Environmental Investigation Agency, Save Japan Dolphins, the WWF and an ambassadorship with climate change initiative Earth Hour have encouraged successful public action for tigers, dolphins and marine conservation.
