Lady Gaga Awarded For Being A Fashion Icon (Video)

Does wearing costumes make you fashionable?

Lady Gaga has certainly made a statement with her daily choice of clothing, but is she really a fashion icon?

The ‘Born This Way’ singer was named a fashion icon at the Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards Monday night. Gaga received the Award for 2011 at the the 10th annual event in New York City.

“Fashion made me feel like a star before I was,” she said as she accepted her award.

Publicists at the CFDA Awards last night told reporters backstage in the press room that the night’s recipient of the Fashion Icon award would not be visiting them “because of the size of her dress.”

Other big winners of the fashion-forward evening included Proenza Schouler for Womenswear Designer of the Year and Michael Bastian for Menswear Designer of the Year.

Marc Jacobs was also honored at the event, receiving the Geoffery Beene Lifetime Achievement Award.

It was wasn’t just designers who came out — Jessica Alba, Kirsten Dunst, Chloe Sevigny, Miranda Kerr, Ashley Greene, and Kanye West all attended the event.
