Debra Messing, Katharine McPhee’s New TV Series ‘Smash’ (Video)

Emmy award winner Debra Messing is teaming up with American Idol runner-up Katharine McPhee in a new television dramedy called Smash.

McPhee stars as Karen Cartwright a waitress in NYC, who is struggling to make her Broadway dreams come true.

Messing, who one an Emmy for her starring role in Will & Grace, co-stars as the creator of a musical production based on the life of Marilyn Monroe.

Legendary silver screen director/producer Steven Spielberg is listed as executive producer for the new show, which has been picked up by NBC.

The pilot also features Oscar winner Anjelica Huston in a supporting role.

Check out the promo.

The show will feature both original songs, as well as popular covers like Christina Aguilera‘s Beautiful.

Personally, I think it looks a LOT better than Glee, but then again Glee is marketed more to the younger audiences.

What do you guys think? Will you tune in to Smash when it airs on NBC as a mid-season starter?
