As if just seeing your ex isn’t awkward enough, what about working with them, what about filming sex scenes with them?

Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake did just that for their new movie ‘Bad Teacher.’

Diaz, although good-humored about the situation, noted that hooking up with her ex on-screen was a crazy experience.

“Yes, yes. It was just [an] absurdity, a form of hilarity for all of us involved,” she tells PEOPLE. “We went to work that day and said, what time do we start being ridiculous? … Eight o’clock? Perfect.”

Director Jake Kasdan says the pair just abandoned their awkwardness and were completely professional about the scenes and yet still had a lot of laughs.

“I guess the real truth is that they’re good friends … They’re buddies,” says Kasdan. “They got in there and started doing it. And it was so funny, we just couldn’t stop shooting it. And we were doing it almost the whole day. And really crying, laughing at the [video] monitors.”

The two actors dated from 2003 to 2007 but have moved on to other serious relationships, Diaz has A-Rod and Timberlake just broke up with Jessica Biel.
