Last week, Ozzy & Sharon Osbourne were stunned to learn the IRS had placed a lien on one of their properties, particularly since the lien came with an unexpected $1.7 million bill. While they quickly paid the back taxes they owed, the situation isn’t over yet.

The family’s matriarch isn’t too happy about how it all played out. Why? Because they learned about the lien not from the federal agency – but from the media.

“At 4:00 p.m. on Friday afternoon I received a phone call from my publicist who had a reporter on the other line informing her that the IRS had just put a lien on one of our properties. I then contacted my accountant who said they knew nothing about any lien,” Sharon Osbourne told Perez Hilton.

It turned out the couple owned $718,948.25 in back taxes for 2008, and $1,024,175.03 for 2009. Osbourne confirmed that it has since been paid. (Must be nice to have that much cash on hand!) But she’s not one to take things lying down.

“I do intend to find out how this lien happened without the knowledge of myself or my accountants,” she told Hilton, before adding, “I hope none of this reflects negatively on mine and Ozzy’s moral character.”

It is at bit shady that the IRS didn’t notify them directly. But as for how the situation would besmirch the Osbourne’s “moral character,” that I don’t quite get. Didn’t her husband bite heads off bats at one point in his heavy metal career?
