If anyone out there still doubts the power that 140 characters can wield, you’re obviously living in a cave.

In my year and a half on the social networking site Twitter, I’ve seen miracles happen. Quite a few times. Most recently, New Kids on the Block member Donnie Wahlberg getting one of his fans a new kidney!

Nashville fan Bobbette Miller was in dire need of a new kidney after hers failed. And thanks to new fave NKOTB member and twitter, Bobbette found SIX matches! She is scheduled for transplant surgery in June.

This all came about when admitted twitter addict Wahlberg came across a retweet; “Basically, a few of my Twitter followers retweeted a blog (called ‘Love Can Do Anything’) about a fan named Bobbette who was in desperate need of a kidney transplant. So I saw the tweet, read the link and then retweeted and asked for help.”

Wahlberg fans did not disappoint! Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where Bobbette was being treated was flooded with calls from people who wanted to help out.

Of the six matches that were found, it was narrowed down and one was selected to go through with the transplant.

Simply amazing.

It’s wonderful to think that we are in an age where the world has become so much smaller a place, and that we are all part of a global community. Stories like this, just prove this point.

Congratulations Bobbette. I wish you nothing but health and happiness. And Donnie, if you’re reading this, know that you’re hero. Kudos brother!
