George Clooney and girlfriend Elisabetta Canalis may be appearing on an Italian witness stand during the tawdry trial of Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.

The 74 year-old politico is embroiled in a shocking sex scandal involving underage prostitution, accused of paying an underage Moroccan girl for sex.

The appearance of the Oscar winner and his Italian lover on the list of 78 potential witnesses in the case was a shock, including Clooney. The actor has issued a statement saying he only met the Italian prime minister once in an attempt to secure aid for Darfur.

But the stripper Berlusconi is accused of paying for sex – Karima el-Mahroug, a.k.a. Ruby the Heart Stealer, claims the couple were at a dinner party thrown by the Italian head of state. Canalis has vehemently denied this to authorities. And no wonder! All sorts of unsavory activities are rumored to have occured at the events.

Clooney maintains a home in Lake Como, Italy.
