A ring, or the lack of one, may have been the cause of the latest Hollywood power couple split. News of the breakup between Bradley Cooper and Renee Zellweger broke on Friday, but details were sketchy.

Now, a source close to the couple told Popeater’s Rob Shuter that the 41 year-old actress was looking for a proposal from her boyfriend of not-quite two years.

Apparently, that didn’t happen and she and Cooper, 36, have now called it quits.

Cooper has plenty to keep his mind occupied, what with his new movie, Limitless, raking in $19 million in theaters this weekend. The Hangover star, who played Lt. Templeton Peck in 2010’s The A-Team, has created quite the buzz in his latest role.  And his star is expected to keep climbing when The Hangover 2 hits theaters on May 26.

Zellweger’s not moping at home while her ex takes the box office by storm. According to Us Magazine, she stepped out on the town Saturday night, raising eyebrows in a form-fitting black dress and killer shoes at New York’s La Esquina restaurant.
