Rihanna’s ‘S&M’ Video Sparks Controversy With Borrowed Imagery & Sexiness
Rihanna’s new video for “S&M” hit the internet on Tuesday and not only did it spark the “way too sexy” controversy with some viewers, she’s getting ripped on for borrowing the imagery!
YouTube busted an underage cap on the video and it has been banned in eleven countries altogether!

The director of the video, Melina Matsoukas, said., “When I go out to make something, I kind of go out with the intention to get it banned — well not to get it banned, I always want my stuff played – but to make something provocative.”
Melina went on to say, “So when you do something that’s provocative, that’s usually a repercussion. It’s gonna be talked about or banned or slandered in some way. But it’s making an effect and people are having a dialogue about it, so, to me, that’s successful.”
She went on to reveal, “I mean, the song is called ‘S&M’! So I think that the imagery follows suit with what the song is. I wouldn’t play down the imagery for a song that’s so strong. It makes sense to develop it further and really take it there. So if they don’t want to play it, fans can watch it somewhere else.”
The internet has been abuzz of the controversy about the themes, but not just because they’re oversexualized. In addition to that, people are calling copycat on RiRi for using David LaChapelle’s imagery in the video, even though he wasn’t associated with the project at all.
A source within LaChapelle’s studio tells RadarOnline.com exclusively that the photographer has worked previously with the songstress, but he was definitely not involved in any way with this project.
The source says that they became aware of the similarities between the video and LaChapelle’s work when staffers who handle his fan page, Twitter, and Facebook account called them to tell them they were receiving a lot of messages regarding the video.
“Interns told us that fans were buzzing about the video and wanting to know if David had directed it,” the source told RadarOnline.com. “Then the phone in the office started ringing off the hook, everyone was like ‘wow it’s amazing – it’s the exact same.’”

That video is super awesome! Lines are meant to be crossed and she really didn’t cross any.. The song is called S&M and she showed that.. In a fun, exciting and very colorful way. I think if someone doesn’t prefer the video because of sexuality, then I believe they need to get in touch with their and maybe go on a shopping trip at the lions den. They might be surprised how normal getting tied up is.
I think that she shud think about the message that she’s sending out to her “LovedFans” becuz “teen mom” is only gunna double its moms…….
Oh and about stealing someone elses isshh is just wrng how wud she feel ???so yah she WRONG
