Christina Aguilera Apologizes Over National Anthem Screw Up

When Christina Aguilera belted out the National Anthem at yesterday’s Super Bowl, many noticed that she really flubbed the lyrics to “The Star Spangled Banner”.

She was honored with being able to sing the song for the nation, yet she must not have memorized the lyrics.

Reportedly, the songstress was telling people that she was devastated over the massive mess up and that she didn’t want anyone around her. And today, she’s issuing an apologize for it.

In a new statement, she says, “I can only hope that everyone could feel my love for this country and that the true spirit of it’s anthem still came through.”

While some at home may not have noticed due to the consumption of alcoholic beverages during yesterday’s game, we had our ear to the ground.

Can you believe she messed up the lyrics? Isn’t that the first song you learn here in the States?

What do you think? Is her apology enough? Did you feel her love for the country? Still, I think she sang her heart out. Don’t you?

Eh, she’s still a good singer. Don’t be too hard on her. It is a little shocking to mess the lyrics that badly, but overall she did well.

Can someone tell if the people translating with sign language signed it correctly, or like Christina sang it.

Allie | February 7th, 2011

@Dann — THAT is a funny question!

She didn’t sing her heart out as you claim. She sounded a mess. Trying to outdo every note that she hit. But who doesn’t know the lyrics to the Star Spangle Banner? #epicfail.
I mean we all make mistakes, and granted she did perform in front of one of the largest audience. kudos to her. We all know she can sing, just not one of her best performance. Smh. Actually it was a pretty bad performance.

She did awesome. Everyone needs to stop hating on her these days. Just because she doesn’t have a hit song out right now, no one wants to say anything nice about her. I remember when Britney was the one who apparently lost her career and was dead in everyone’s book. And now there’s so much hype on her new song. Christina is awesome. Case and point.
haha… Dann’s comment is pretty funny though.. I was wondering that too.. if the sign language lady signed the national anthem correctly to the words. Why is there no media firestorm over her? Soooo.. she’s still American, and Christina is not? I’m Confused.

Christina’s apology is accepted by me, a Soldier who has completed several combat tours defending this nations freedom and your right to openly criticize her. Yes, the National Anthem is a song that all American’s should know verbatim, however I bet given the opportunity more than 50% would flub it up too. She is human, we are human and people need to get off her back and get over it. After all, no one is all over the writer of this article (who does this for a living) with all their missed grammatical errors. I’m just sayin…

Maybe if she was more focused on the words and not adding all her ooos and ahhhhs and riffs and what not she would have gotten it right! I’m not a fan of christina ever, this is no exception. Big thumbs down!

I was in the next room, having no interest in the Super Bowl, when this came on. I never, ever would have guessed this was the National Anthem which represents our country all over the world.. Forgetting the words, by a professional, although not understandable to me is forgivable, but the way this sounded was truly horrible. Christina did a real injustice to this song.
