Adam Lambert has spoken out to support teenagers who are being bullied over their sexuality.

The former American Idol contestant filmed the message for Dan Savage’s It Gets Better project, which was founded last month in response to the recent number of gay teen suicides in America.

In the video, which is one of many hosted on the It Gets Better website, Lambert says: “It gets better, but it’s up to you.”

He continues: “At the end of the day if you give those bullies and those people that are so ignorant and fearful of your lifestyle, if you give them the power to affect you, you’re letting them win and they don’t deserve that. You are so much more than your orientation.”

Lambert also confesses that he is still a victim of bullying today despite the success of his career and cites the comments section of articles written about him as often containing some form of homophobic abuse.

The singer then reiterates that “there is so much more to me than just who I choose to sleep with”.

Kathy Griffin, Rob Thomas and Adam Levine are among a number of other celebrities to record video messages in support of the project.
