Lady Gaga Falls For Twitter Hoax

Was Lady Gaga the victim of a twisted Twitter hoax?

A Crushable blogger claims a 15-year-old girl named Ana, who allegedly tweeted under the Twitter handle @analilmonster and allegedly died from cancer this morning, may not actually exist.

Lady Gaga Falls For Twitter Hoax

Ms. Gaga Goo linked to the incredibly moving story of a 15-year-old fan who apparently died this morning. According to an investigation, it appears that Gaga and her fans may have been the victim of a very cruel hoax.

Doh’ you think?

This morning, a Twitter user named “JoelxSoul” tweeted: “This is a moment of sadness, as I have to share the news I hoped I’d never have to share. This a.m. my baby sister Ana (@analilmonster as you probably know her) lost her, almost 5 year old, battle against acute lymphocytic leukemia.” He then writes about Ana’s bravery, and her enduring love for Lady Gaga. He asks for privacy for the family, but also asks everyone’s help in passing this story on to Gaga. He then tweeted identical messages to three people who had corresponded with “Analilmonster” on twitter. “I’m asking my sister’s contact’s on her profile to help me get this http://tl.gd/1l8ndr to Lady Gaga by RT. #RIPlilmonster.”

Within a few hours, the story had reached Lady Gaga, who retweeted it.

Here’s Gaga’s response:

Lady Gaga Gets Tricked with Hoax

There are a number of troubling clues to suggest that this a hoax:

1. Ana’s Twitter account is only five days old.

2. She discusses only cancer and Gaga, and is apparently not connected on Twitter to anyone that she’s met in real life.

3. She mentions her brother, but never her parents, and provides no details of where she is, except for a reference to Gaga being a trending topic in Baltimore.

4. She @messages some other Gaga fans on Twitter, and on Tuesday night is discovered by a Twitter user called “edwitched,” who tells his followers about her. She tells one of her new Twitter friends that she’s not on Facebook.

Meanwhile, Joel’s Twitter has only existed since last night, when he tweeted “@Analilmonster Hi love you baby sis. Have a good night, princess.” He followed up this morning with 13 tweets about her death and her feelings for Gaga, all in the space of an hour, before going quiet again. He writes that he doesn’t want media attention, but leaves absolutely no way for Gaga, or anyone else, to get in touch with him.

It seems unlikely that Joel would start his Twitter the day before his sister died, with a single message to her, and that he would be so focused on getting her story spread throughout Twitter immediately after her death.

And I find it sickening that people would do things like this… balloon boy.

Dude could’ve at least asked for money.

I have been outraged over this all day long. Not that I don’t have a heart, I am incredibly sympathetic to true life stories of suffering as I have gone through a lot of hardships myself. But, reading the initial letter to Gaga, I felt instantly in my gut that something was wrong. My light bulb went off because the letter felt contrived. I can not believe that someone would prey on my Gaga’s wonderful kindness in this manner. There are a LOT of true little monsters out there, like myself, who would never in a million years try to make her cry and get her attention with something as awful and pitiful as this. Gaga, today showed your character and why you remain an amazing human being – you were moved and touched by this story and it just goes to show how much you truly care about your fans.

-agreeing with Nichele-

There is no girl named “Ana” who died from leukemia. This is the desperate attempt for a fan or a pranker to get attention from Lady Gaga.
The test for lupus is also called ANA, probably where the person got the name from since it wasn’t long ago her heritage for lupus came out in the media.
The Gaga-comminty is in an outrage about this.

[...] Lady Gaga falls for a Twitter hoax. Maybe next time she’ll fall down a flight of stairs. Hey, I can hope, can’t I? (Allie is Wired) [...]

This seems like an attempt to see how smart gaga really is (since she has always claimed she is a great artist), and she has shown her true colors by getting punked on Twitter. A girl named Ana, and ANA is the main test for the lupus antibody? If she didn’t recognize that, it is hard to believe she had the test.
Usually celebs don’t “twitter” their compassion if they have an ounce of shame or intelligence. The noble thing would have been to privately contact the family. But she had to “twitter” her feelings to the whole world to show her customers (sorry, stans) how “nice” she is. I am sure she “cried all day”…this was NOT an attempt it appears to “meet lady gaga” but to show her in all her glory.

Anyone who bothers to leave gaga hate mail on these forums obviously has nothing better to do so just get a life X( gaga is amazing and a brilliant human being how could that person do that??!!

To JJ,

Did not you read the article? How can she “do the most noble thing” if THERE IS NO INFORMATION ON THE CONTACT OF THE FAMILY?

So what if she “wasn’t intelligent enough” to “notice the signs. Neither was I…and I’m not, to be honest a gaga fan…or “customer”. I DID read this letter and I was heartbroken by the sound of it. She shows her compassion enough about it to share this with the monster family, a network of devoted gaga fans who help and speak to one another. I can tell you from my experience with having friends who are little monsters that she doesn’t tweet for rthe sake of the public, she tweets for her fans. Isn’t that what tweeting is all about? I may not be a part of the monster family, but, like I said, I know people who are, and I am quite amazed at a CELEBRITY’S accomplishment at establishing a community of total strangers who bond and support one another as if they were close friends.

May I ask you to thoroughly do your research on a celebrity before you criticize them?
