American Idol: And The Winner Is…
I am exhausted after watching last night’s American Idol Finale. Get ready, this will be a video heavy recap!
We start with a teaser rumor that Bret Michaels might take stage and the announcement that only a 2% margin separated Crystal Bowersox and Lee Dewyze for the top spot. The first performance of the night is Alice Cooper and the Top 12 doing “School’s Out.”
Kris Allen showed up after being crowned last season’s winner. He performed “The Truth” as Ryan Seacrest’s mic was left on for a brief moment. After that, we are reminded that Simon Cowell will be departing this season. A montage ensues.
Siobhan and Aaron Kelly return to sing. The 2 of the Bee Gees also follow up their performance and Big Mike performs with Michael McDonald.
Christina Aguilera follows as she has been facing a lot of flack with her album not getting a lot of positive praise, picking fights with Lady Gaga and postponing her upcoming tour after rumors of poor ticket sales. The girls of the of just about every season start her segment by butchering “Beautiful.”
We switch to the men. Big Mike, Aaron Kelly, Tim Urban, Casey James, Andrew Garcia and Lee Dewyze perform. They introduce Hall & Oates. What really brought the show back was Cyrstal Bowersox and and Alanis Morissette singing! Although it was like they were chasing each other all over the stage. Weird.
Carrie Underwood also returned to sing “Undo It” and the final two were given Ford Fiestas. Oh geez…
While the show is proving to be more marathon than its usual sprint, Bret Michaels does in fact show up. He sings his claim to fame, “Every Rose Has It’s Thorn” with Casey James.
Finally we see Lee Dewyze back on stage. He sings with Chicago!
Of course Paula Abdul also comes back to give a drunken rambling that is dripping with awkwardness
Joe Cocker and the Top 12 further to tribute to Simon with a group effort on “With a Little Help from My Friends.”
Janet Jackson shows up. While I love me some Nasty Janet, I just want the results already!
Finally! We have waited two hours been entertained by a slew of artists and Idol alumni (I would like to point out David Cook was noticeably absent) for this…..the 2010 American Idol is LEE DEWYZE!

Comments section closes after 60 days.
Just as an FYI David Cook did not attend as he was at a charity event in Kansas City, honoring a prior commitment (reportedly, the callout to past Idol winners only went out last Friday). Cook is known for his philanthropic activities as much as he is for his music (e.g., Idol Gives Back, Race for Hope DC, fundraiser for New Orleans with Better Than Ezra, etc.). This week’s events were for Shadow Buddies Foundation, which provides help to children with cancer (Cook’s older brother died of brain cancer in 2009).
