63rd Annual Cannes Film Festival Opening Gala
Not even rain could dampen the mood as the 63rd Annual Cannes Film Festival kicked off tonight — but that didn’t keep the stars away!
Kate Beckinsale, Cate Blanchett, Russell Crowe, Salma Hayek, Eva Longoria, and others set the tone for plenty of glamour over the next 12 days of the festival.

Kicking off opening night was the world premiere of Robin Hood, Ridley Scott’s take on the classic British folk hero starring Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett as the titular outlaw and Maid Marian respectively.

Among the highly anticipated films this year are Fair Game, which stars Penn and Watts and tells the story of CIA agent Valerie Plame; You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger, directed by Woody Allen and starring Watts and Josh Brolin; Inside Job, a documentary about the global financial crisis narrated by Matt Damon; and Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, starring Douglas and LaBeouf.
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, mainstays at the festival in recent years, won’t be attending. Pitt’s upcoming movie, Tree of Life, directed by Terence Malick, was eyeing Cannes for a premiere but was not completed in time.
With some 3,000 journalists from about 80 countries jamming into the French Riviera for Wednesday’s start of the 63rd annual film festival, Allie is Wired is very proud to have been invited to attend. Be sure and watch for our coverage!
