‘Wizard of Oz’ Remake in the Works
Fresh off Disney’s massive success with Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland,” Warner Bros. wants to remake another childhood classic. The studio is examining two existing “Wizard of Oz” projects, with an eye toward giving one of them a modern gloss and moving it toward the big screen.

One project, called “Oz,” currently lives at Warner’s New Line label. It’s being produced by Temple Hill, which is behind a little franchise called “Twilight,” and has a script written by Darren Lemke, a writer on the upcoming “Shrek Forever After.”
A second “Wizard of Oz” project, set up at Warners proper, skews a little darker — it’s written by “A History of Violence” screenwriter Josh Olson and focuses on a granddaughter of Dorothy who returns to Oz to fight evil. “Clash of the Titans” producer Basil Iwanyk and his Thunder Road Pictures are behind that one. (“Spawn” creator Todd MacFarlane is potentially involved in a producerial capacity, to give you some idea of the tone.)
While the idea of a new “Wizard of Oz” movie is said to be in the development, let’s-bat-this-around stage, it’s been advanced seriously enough on the lot that representatives for some of the top directors around Hollywood have been briefed.
Either Tim Burton does it, or I’m not interested.

If Tim Burton does it, I will sue, he butchered Alice in Wonderland so bad, sure the graphics were great but the story, ugghh, Johnny Depp better not be the Scarecrow.
I will boycott the movies if The Wizard of Oz is remade….they can go ahead and do another one of Baums Oz books…but NOBODY remakes The Wizard of OZ….that movie is a 1939 CLASSIC…….
There are several movies you cannot remake:
Casablanca
Gone with the wind…and OZ…..DONT DO IT HOLLYWOOD….you will bring forth an apocalypse
Tim Burton would be great to remake this movie. I disagree with siaarn. He did not remake Alice in wonderland he set it as if she had grown up and returned to wonderland. Apparently you don’t watch enough or read enough to relize the amount of hard work he put into that movie. It shouldn’t be considered a remake, but a new one or maybe even a sequel to the Alice In wonderland that everyone loves
I don’t think Tim Burton would do good on this. And I do not like the fact that they are talking about remaking this classic. I have had to find so many copies of Wizard of Oz because I used to play it so much it stopped working. I can’t believe they would even think they could make this movie anything like the original….this is a CLASSIC! DON’T MESS WITH THE CLASSICS! That’d be almost as bad as trying to remake Shirley Temple movies….it just can’t be done, there is only one Shirley Temple and only one Dorothy of the Wizard of Oz and they both were AWESOME!
He’s not even remaking it, though. It’ll be somewhat of an adaptation. I think it will be wonderful.
Just because somethings old, doesn’t make it a classic. I’ve never liked The Wizard of Oz (just my opinion of course) but then again I’ve never partial to musicals. Mind you, I don’t know how great of a job Tim Burton would do on a remake or re-imagining; I’m quite sure though that Johnny Depp will most likely play Dorothy. Haha. But I’d be willing to see it as long as it isn’t as bad as Charlie and the Chocolate factory.I’ve never seen Alice, nor do I have any intentions of doing so just for the simple fact that its not actually a remake but instead a revisit to Wonderland. Technically I think the name itself is false advertising, when infact it should be called Alice returns to Wonderland.
But either way, have at it Tim; let’s see what you can do with it!
