NBC Serves Up Racism For Lunch – Photo

Want some racism with a side of blackeyed peas for Black History Month?

NBC has got you covered. QuestLove of The Roots, snapped the below photo in the cafeteria showing NBC employees what’s for lunch.

NBC Serves Up Racism For Lunch - Photo

In honor of Black History Month, NBC posted the cafeteria sign above, which shows the menu items: Fried chicken, collared greens with smoked turkey, white rice/blackeyed peas and jalapeno cornbread.

A Dave Chappelle quote comes to mind here: “I didnt know that I was predisposed to liking chicken”. It seems that NBC is not doing themselves any PR favors even after the Conan O’Brien kerfuffle.

Some say it’s a Soul Food plate and they don’t see where the offense lies. Others say that they are truly offended at this obvious racism. Is it just like serving cornbeef and cabbage on St. Patrick’s Day?

NBCU has setup a Twitter account to apologize with this message:

The sign in the NBCU cafeteria has been removed. We apologize for anyone who was offended by it.

Meanwhile, QuestLove has opted to leave it alone:

i think i need a twitter break. i done started something. and now i must put out fire.

Your thoughts?

I think it’s a bit offensive to serve those things. Why would they specifically pick those dishes? Anything else would have been just as good.

Racist would imply a negative connotation. Serving cultural foods to celebrate that culture is NOT racist. No one has any issue with Indian food, Chinese food, Italian food, etc. being referred to as such. Some people really are digging to find something “offensive.”

stfu – Who cares????? Yeah, you’re right, it is like serving cornbeef and cabbage on St. Patty’s Day. The only difference is Irish people would be proud to eat it up and share in the feast with all cultures!

Black people go looking for this stuff all the time to cry “racist” over. I’m entirely over it, and growing racist myself these days if I see this bs shoved down my throat one more time. Enough is enough. Black people wanna keep crying racist when they the only racist people truly on the planet, then why don’t they go find a nice little deserted island and all emigrate there – cook what they wanna eat – play th emusic they want credit for – and leave the rest of us alone – We won’t bother you, try to take your land – nothing – GO!

It’s a soul food dish. Soul food is unique to black american culture. plus it sounds delicious. i’m not black, but i would be happy to eat it. if you’re black and you’re uncomfortable eating it, then that sounds like a personal problem.
