Abigail Breslin Angers Deaf & Blind People
Abigail Breslin is a fledgling actress with an awesome resume, at only 13-years-old. She most recently starred as “Little Rock” in “Zombieland” and was inspiring in a world filled with chaos and uncertainty.

Not everybody is thinking that Abigail is the cat’s meow, though. She signed on to do the Broadway production of “The Miracle Worker” as the main character, Helen Keller.
The Alliance for Inclusion in the Arts has a problem with the casting director’s choice of Breslin for the role. They’re basically peeved that the producers of the show didn’t actually choose a deaf and blind actress for the lead role.
The Executive Director of the AIA, Sharon Jensen, says that they should’ve chosen a genuinely deaf and blind actress who would have been able to bring her own experience to the role.
The show’s producer, David Richenthal, said that the hefty $3 million they got as an investment was only because of the big star they got for its main role.
Suck it Jensen! That’s David’s way of giving you the finger, since he knows that’s something you’ll understand.

The Alliance fully supports artistic freedom and has never protested the casting of Abigail Breslin in The Miracle Worker. We support the creative freedom that all artists bring to the casting process. However, it was our disappointment not with the selection, but the process in which the production selected Ms. Breslin, an actor of immense talent, that required that we speak. It would be our hope that the producers of work such as The Miracle Worker consider in their casting process actors from the communities we service, actors who could also bring significant breadth and depth to the role. That is our hope for the future of this project, this role, and other roles and projects in this same position — consider those in the community represented on-stage. And to be clear, it is not and never has been our position to call for the firing of any actor and we only wish Ms. Breslin the best in her Broadway debut.
