Wired Exclusive: ‘Making His Band’ Interview
“Making His Band” the new P. Diddy reality series first aired Monday July 27th. Already, the show starts out with an interesting slew of hopefuls ready to give their soul for a spot in the artist’s back up band that will tour with him on his Last Train to Paris venture.

Diddy has been creating groups and helping those try to reach a career in the music business for years. This season is different because those elite few chosen will tour with the star in his band.
It’s a refreshed approach to his series on MTV that constantly has cutthroat contenstants doing anything to get Diddy’s help to achieve their dreams. Allie is Wired was lucky enough to get to chat with one of this year’s “Making His Band” hopefuls, Jaila, who is actually the subject of the following video.
I had the opportunity to speak with Jaila AKA Mike, from the show. He was very courteous and sweet. He took the time to answer some of our questions about himself, Diddy, and the show.
Hi Jayla, how are you?
I’m fine, thank you!
How do you feel about this different take on making it into the music business at the hands of Diddy?
Actually, I’ve been a fan of “Making The Band” and of Diddy and I’m glad that he’s offering the opportunity to fans of the show. It’s an opportunity to learn under Diddy and all of the judges. It’s been a blessing, a real dream come true. To learn from them is a blessing.
Have you disagreed with the judges choices or comments?
Actually, I feel that the judges are well qualified and they are doing the best for Diddy and his best live stage performance. At the end of the day, it’s not about my opinion, it’s about theirs and what’s best for him.
Are there any strong friendships or enemies being made?
You’ll definitely have to wait and see. I’m close to everyone in the cast. Ashton is my heart and you’ll be seeing a lot of her on the show, hopefully. I think we have become a family, but there’s drama, too. When you have 42 musicians under the same roof, competing for the same opportunity, there’s going to be drama.
What makes you stand out, what do you have that no one else does?
I have an enthusiasm and a passion for Diddy’s music. I’ve been following his label, along with Danity Kane, and Day 26. It’s been a lifelong dream to work with Diddy.
If you could knock one person out of the competition who would it be?
No one. Honest! I’m being honest. Everyone who’s there is extremely talented and qualified. Everyone deserves to be there.
What do you think about all the hype surrounding Diddy’s alleged massive ego?
Diddy is a perfectionist. For someone to go through what he’s gone through in his life – producer, Hip Hop mogul, in fashion and fragrances, he has to make tough decisions. He’s not egotistical. He’s just doing what has to be done…I think he’s great.
A special thanks to Jaila for taking the time to answer our questions today!
