Wired Music: Charice Pempengco - Listen Here!

By Roberta | February 27, 2009

We first we listened to her at the Glam Oscar Afterparty at Mr. Chow, and we’re not surprised that at the tender age of 16, Charice Pempengco is blowing us all away with her amazing voice.

She started out as one of the finalists on the first season of “Little Big Star” and became popular globally as her popularity grew on Youtube.

Her debut album, “Charice” sold over 12,500 copies which was certified as Gold in the Phillipines. She has since performed with Celine Dion and has belted out classics, such as, “And I’m Telling You I’m Not Going” and “I Will Always Love You”.

If you’re like me, you’ve heard American Idol contestants butcher the crap out of both songs and to have someone so young come along and knock it out of the park, just seems unimaginable.

Here’s Charice performing “And I’m Telling You I’m Not Going”:

Here’s her Whitney Houston tribute, with her performing “I Will Always Love You”. I’ve never heard such talent, especially when it comes to covering Whitney. She was such a hard act to follow that I didn’t think it was possible.

She performed “And I’m Tell You I’m Not Going” on Ellen DeGeneres’ show in December 2007. What a performance and such talent.

In September 2008, she shared the stage with her singing idol, Celine Dion. I’d say she outsang Celine, another feat that I didn’t think was possible.

Charice most recently performed “God Bless America” at the Martin Luther King Awards Ceremony in D.C. on January 18th.

She’s predicted to be one of the biggest stars of 2009, so be on the lookout for new stuff by her. To tide you over, here’s a sneak peek at her new single, “Fingerprint“.

I’m amazed. What do you think? For more information on Charice, be sure to check out her official website or her MySpace page.

Thank you for a good review about Charice. She’s really is an amazing singer/performer. Good things happen to good people. I don’t think anyone can belt out like Whitney at such a tender age of 15. Goodluck Charice and we can hardly wait for your first international album especially after listening to Fingerprint.

She is wonderful! And a sight to behold. Watch all her youtube videos and feel the breathless experience everybody is talking about. Truly a marvel in the music world as she expresses each song making them all her own. Plus factor:a child of great humility, a very loving daughter. Search for her story in Oprah and another longer life story in her country’s TV special entitled “Ice Cream” complete with English caption. Some people say she’s ugly and will not make in America being Asian. I don’t care what they say. I love this girl. She is definitely beautiful inside and out.

What a gifted girl and her life story is so inspiring. She is and should be the role model for the youth today. She is worth emulating. Very admirable traits, no wonder she can touch people. Even the great Muhammad Ali broke out into a smile which he rarely does these days just by listening to her sing and standing up too to join her! Now that is amazing! And her awesome performance at Mr. Chow’s oscar party, did anyone see how she got the crowd listening and dancing?
She is one of a kind. Diane Warren chose well and chose the best. :-)

We saw her in Atlanta Oct 28. She is truly Amazing! Even though she only sang 3 songs, it was well worth the admission. I can’t wait for the release of her album in Feb/Mar. The meet and greet after the show was awesome. There were only 20+ people and everyone had a chance to talk and get autographs. My wife and I even have solo pictures with this humble, friendly, down to earth person. God bless you and yours. We are fans forever. Proud to be Pinoy!

I am Filipino and that makes me a bit prejudiced towards Filipino artists. So far I have I admired only 3 singers in the Phil’s. One is Lea Salonga who no doubt had made it globally receiving a tony award as best actress for theater acting (musical) but I can’t deny Charice for her awesome talent. Never did I have become like crazy checking her videos in YouTube everyday… not many Filipinos share the same sentiments because we normally are envious of any Filipino making it big somewhere bigger than our country. She really is a real deal! AMAZING young girl! i can’t get enough of her…
