Ok, people a cold sore and herpes are not the same thing. Cold sores are caused by a virus called HSV-1 Herpes is caused by HSV-2. They are similar. HSV-1 causes cold sores, HSV-2 causes genitial herpes a STD. Just because u have a cold sore it does not mean u have herpes!!!!!! BUT A PERSON WITH A COLD SORE ON THEIR LIP WHO PERFORMS ORAL SEX CAN CAUSE THE VIRUS TO CHANGE TO HSV-2 which causes Herpes………Be careful

For all you uneducated people on here: Yes the cold sore is caused by the herpes simplex virus, however, it is not exactly the same as the virus that gives you genital herpes. So even if it is a cold sore it DOES NOT mean she has genital herpes. And the transmission rate is greater in men so it’s more probable that he gave it to her than she to him.

hsv1= herpes simplex virus 1 (on your mouth) hsv2= herpes simplex virus 2 (genitals)

The locations can be interchangeable if you perform oral sex on someone with genital herpes or someone with a cold sore performs oral sex on you. Thats why doctors test you for both because depending on your activities you can have either one in either place.

The people who are saying it’s ok for a grown man to beat a woman down and nearly kill her because she may have given him an STD are lacking in a basic understanding between right and wrong. IF she had given him herpes, it would be his fault as well as hers. He’s an adult and made the decision to have sex with her. If it was without protection, he must live with the consequences, not absolve himself of all responsibility. 90% of people with herpes (type 1 and type 2) are asymptomatic, meaning they have herpes but do not show symptoms of it. 90% of people are unaware that they carry herpes. A large chunk of you posting have herpes and do not even realize it. Ask your doctor for an IGG specific blood test to determine if you have herpes; there is a 50-80% chance that you have type 1 and a 25% chance that you have type 2. You can still trasmit herpes even when you do not show signs of the disease, because herpes sheds 10-20% of the time. Someone who is asypmtomatic can pass the disease unknowingly to someone who doesn’t suppress the virus so well, who shows symtpoms. So don’t go around pointing fingers and saying that someone intentionally ‘gave’ the disease to someone else. Most people with herpes (who know they have it) do not intentionally pass it along to someone else.

Also, doctors do not test for herpes during your std exam, unless you have visible lesions present (90% don’t). Herpes tests are not a part of the STD screening process. Be sure to specifically ask your doctor for a herpes blood test, or your doctor will not administer it.

You are a complete idiot. Stop misinforming people. Cold sores ARE a symptom of HERPES. Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1 IS HERPES. It results in sores that can appear on the face usually the lips and rarely other areas of the upper body. Herpes Simplex Virus Type 2 is genital herpes. It results in sores below the waist. There’s a reason they are both called HSV because they are both HERPES. 70% of the population is infected with Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1 (cold sores) but just because it’s common doesn’t make it any less gross. Herpes on your face or herpes below the waist- nasty either way.
