Mickey Rourke Calls Sean Penn ‘Average Homophobe’
By Cara | December 30, 2008
This is great! Two old farts going at it in an ass kicking contest.
Mickey Rourke was hanging in the gutters of the D-list when he finally managed to score a redeeming role in “The Wrestler.” The film and his performance are currently generating Oscar buzz. Mickey’s dedication to the character was almost lost to Nicholas Cage. He was originally cast in the lead, but Cage stepped in. However, Rourke once again took over the role after Nic bowed out.
Now that the film is gaining momentum, the gloves are off. While on Letterman he was backstage talking with someone and mentioned that he didn’t think of Sean Penn as contender for the Oscar. He stated that he doesn’t think Penn will get a nomination let alone win. Then an enterainment mogul in L.A. shared a text from Mickey to the media that attacked the talent of the “Milk” star.
“Look seans an old friend of mine and i didnt buy his performance at all—thought he did an average pretend acting like he was gay besides hes one of the most homophobic people i kno” [sic]”
This is stirring up the pot. Just when Rourke appears to be on the high road he opens his mouth about a Hollywood veteran. Not a good idea. A rep for Mickey denies the Oscar Feud exists and says that Rourke has no idea where the text came from. The two are supposedly long time friends.
Sounds to me like Mickey can forget a Christmas Card from Penn this year.
