Wired Music: Mitch Mitchell Dead at 61

Mitch Mitchell, drummer for the Jimi Hendrix Experience, died in his sleep of natural causes this week. A hotel employee found Mitchell’s body on Wednesday in a Portland, Oregon hotel five days after the 2008 Experience Jimi Hendrix tour ended. He was sixty-one years old.

Mitchell pioneered rock’s lead-drummer style, and because of that, I think it’s appropriate to take a moment to appreciate some of the work he left behind. Check out the Jimi Hendrix Experience’s “Fire” in the player below.
