Okay, that Massie Block ( Elizabeth McLaughlin ) can be such a little biotch! Every school has the ‘it’ girls. They just happen. They spring out of no where and they rule. The queen bee exhorts such magnetism, she turns mysteriously powerful by default, becoming a manipulative, a downright cruel creaturette. If she doesn’t know your secrets, she will soon or she will make some up. Oh, boy, does she wish she knew it all! A la Miley Cyrus lyrics: “such a creepy little, sneaky little fly on the wall. All my precious secrets, yeah, you’d know them all. Don’t you wish that you could be a fly on a wall!”

Even though a girl like Massie can get quite annoying after a while, you want to know her, you want to be her, you want to smell like her! Well, you do if you’re a tween. Not me, I’m a cat. I just lick my butt and I’m good as gold. Speaking of which, that little pug, he was such a decent actor! Kudos mon frere!

Click, click, click, click, cliques! Damn! While watching this film, half of me wanted to slap something really hard and the other half of me was captivated and eager to find out what will happen next. Will Massie get what she deserves? Will Claire ( Ellen Marlow) become the new queen bee? No matter how I look at it, it is a very cute picture. Yeah, it starts off very cliché rich gal I am and rich gal I so wanna be, but even in Clueless no one expected to find depth. As a matter a fact, Clique carries a message which comes across quite clear toward the end. Be yourself and everything will fall in place. You don’t have to be in grade school to know how difficult this task may be. Work, life, relationships….with a little bit of retrospect, everyone can relate to the story, whatever their age may be.

Lisi Harrison (the novelist) and Liz Tigelaar, who wrote the adaptation obviously spend a lot of time online, judging by the amount of internet technology promo in the film, but so what. These days if your teens aren’t texting, your script may as well be a fairy tale. However young the target audience, I did enjoy the story. Claire is a very likable character and eventually, even the cute little twitts come to realize their attitude is so passé. There’s no reason why Cinderella can’t be friends with her evil stepsisters if they make an effort to play nice.
