Wired Music: Vibe Crowns Unlikely ‘Greatest Rapper Alive’

By Alyk | October 8, 2008

Vibe stirred some controversy this week when they announced their reader’s poll “Greatest Rapper Alive.” Readers cast 920,000 votes in the tournament-style competition, and it came down to two names: Jay-Z and Eminem. Shockingly, Eminem won with sixty-nine percent on the votes.

Eminem, who spent the last couple years missing in action, released a statement graciously thanking fans for the honor.

“It’s obviously an honor to have won the fans’ support by being voted the Best Rapper Alive. I don’t think that there is any one rapper that is simply the best, though. Everyone who was in consideration and many others are the best at certain things, and at what they do. But since Vibe’s offering the distinction, hell yeah, I’ll accept!”

Other artists who made the top ten included The Game, Andre 3000, Lil Wayne, and Ludacris.
