Katie Holmes Broadway Performance Picketed
Katie Holmes opened on Broadway in Arthur Millers ‘All My Sons’ on Thursday in spite of the protesters. Yep the anti-Scientology protestors, Anonymous, were out in force. About twenty demonstrators staged a surprising protest some of them shouting things like “Free Katie”. No it was not me! I was just there in spirit. Some of the demonstrators wore masks and more held signs that said “How many more must die?” The Guy Fawkes type masks represent the way Scientology silences its members. The Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre in New York City was jumping.
“We are not boycotting Katie, we are not boycotting the play – we are protesting Scientology. It is evil. Scientology kills people. It follows you home at night. It is perverted,” a demonstrator insisted.
Apparently this was a planned event, as organizers of the group had arranged this weeks ago, “We are going to be there not only in protest of The Church of Scientology. We would love to see Katie Holmes get away from this evil cult before it’s too late.”
But Katie and her keeper…er…husband Tom Cruise totally ignored them. Before the curtain went up Tom was a busy little guy. Tom was all that goofy grin he does and was out pressing the flesh like he was running for office. Tom was greeting theatergoers and taking pictures with the crowd. When he saw Dustin Hoffman his ‘Rainman’ co-star he hugged him, getting a cheer from the crowd.
“It was really powerful, I’m so proud,” Cruise was overheard saying after Holmes’ performance. (After her performance, the two dined at the stylish Angus McIndoe restaurant near the theater.)
This was just a preview of the show, so reviews will not come out till the official opening on October 16th. The New York Post does report that Katie held her own with Broadway pro’s John Lithgow, Dianne Wiest and Patrick Wilson. Wonder what they thought of all the ruckus outside the theater? I just have one more thing to add ”FREE KATIE” there I feel much better now.
