Wired Music: Oasis Back Up to Old Tricks
By Alyk | August 18, 2008
As Oasis prepares for the release of their seventh studio album, Dig Out Your Soul, the band’s leader, Noel Gallagher, seems to be as brutish as ever. In a radio interview promoting the new album and upcoming world tour, Noel slammed every British celebrity currently in the news, including fellow musicians Amy Winehouse and Mark Ronson.
The 41 year old singer/songwriter/guitarist turned up for a 15 minute interview on the BBC’s Radio 1, and started things off by referring to Amy Winehouse as a “destitute horse.” A few minutes later, Noel claimed Brit reality TV star Jade Goody smelled “like stale urine.” He then attacked Mark Ronson.
“Mark Ronson wants to write his own tunes instead of ruining everyone else’s. He needs to learn three chords on the guitar and write a tune.”
After hearing about the interview, Mark responded to Noel’s comments via his Myspace page. Mark’s sarcastic response referenced a beef between Noel and Jay-Z from earlier this summer when Noel suggested the rapper shouldn’t be allowed to headline the Glastonbury music festival because he didn’t play rock music.

Oh, Noel…..
noel gallagher said i should “learn three chords on the guitar and go write a tune”. so i just wanted him to know that i’m actually taking guitar lessons from Jay-Z right now and he’s already taught me both chords to “Wonderwall” (tune!). in fact, it’s so much fun having Jay teach me all of noel’s songs on the guitar (they’re all so easy to learn!) that i”m thinking of doing an Oasis/Jay Z remix album a la “The Grey Album”. Potential titles are “Champagne Superhova” or “Definitely Jay Z”*. I’ll keep you posted….Mark X
p.s. noel, i did write a song called “back to black”, which actually has 7 chords in it.
*-”definitely jay z” was thought of by Peanut.
I don’t think we can expect to hear a rebuttal from Noel, as he’s probably going to be too busy enjoying the early reviews for Dig Out Your Soul; several critics called the disc Oasis’ best work ever. Look for it in stores October 7. For now, listen to the first single, “The Shock of Lightening,” in the player below.
