The Doors Open Up About Legal Dispute
The long-running battle between the three surviving members of The Doors has finally reached its finale. With at least two of them facing a bill of about $5 million. The judge also ordered the new band to stop using “The Doors” name in any form. This comes from the agreement the four members of The Doors made that all business deals required unanimity in the group. Today the votes are controlled by the three surviving members and the estate of Jim Morrison.
“You can’t call yourselves The Doors because you can’t have The Doors without Jim Morrison,” Densmore’s attorney S. Jerome Mandel said.”
Keyboardist Ray Manzanrek and guitarist Robby Krieger have been denied an appeal after the Californian courts they used the groups name and images improperly during the 2003 concert tour. The new group toured under the name “The Doors of the 21st Century”. According to Densmore the “of the 21st Century” part of the title was usually little more than the fine print on advertisements and the ‘new band’ had Morrison’s image displayed dozens of times during the concerts. Manzarek and Kreiger now tour under the name “Riders On The Storm”.
They will now fork over $5 million to drummer John Densmore, the parents of the dead lead sing Jim Morrison and the parents of Morrison’s dead wife, Pamela Courson who died in 1974.
The Doors a Los Angeles based band had a string of hits in the 1960’s. Some really good ones that still play today like ‘Light My Fire’, ‘LA Woman’ and “Riders on the Storm”.
How long to these realtives get to suck on these band memebers like leaches? Come on it has been over thirty years since the death of some of the band members and their wives. The ones getting the money now had NOTHING to do with the band, the songs or doing anything that even helped them. Get a job and stop being a parasite!
