Wired Music: Natalie Portman Goes Bollywood

By Alyk | July 23, 2008

Eccentric folk/indie singer Devendra Banhart featured Natalie Portman in his latest video, “Carmensita.” Banhart and Portman became a couple when they hooked up last March on the set of the Bollywood lampoon.

The Hollywood actress portrays a princess who must be rescued from an evil king by a bearded prince, played by Banhart. In the end, Portman’s character is reincarnated as an octopus.

The video spoofs Bollywood films and includes dancing, sword play, subtitles and special effects.

Dev isn’t the first musician Natalie fell for: over the past few years, tabloids linked her to Moby and Adam Levine of Maroon 5. If we’re choosing boyfriends strictly based on musical capabilities, Dev is a much better catch than an old techno-dude and the guy who broke up Jessica Simpson’s marriage.

If you like “Carmensita,” check out the rest of Dev’s latest disc, Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon.
