Bale Overshadowed by Heath Ledger Oscar Contender
By Karen | June 27, 2008
The latest Batman flick called Batman: Dark Knight is not even in theaters yet and is already get high praise. The recent review by Rolling Stone even mentioned the big “O” word…I meant Oscar. Christian Bale and the late Heath Ledger work their magic together with Heath outshining Bale easily according to reviews.
Rolling Stone critic Peter Travers claims “It’s typical of Ledger’s total commitment to films as diverse as Brokeback Mountain and I’m Not There that he does nothing out of vanity or the need to be liked. If there’s a movement to get him the first posthumous Oscar since Peter Finch won for 1976’s Network, sign me up. Ledger’s Joker has no gray areas — he’s all rampaging id.”
Most of the reviews of this film are all about Ledger and very little about Bale the title character. The pure talent that shows up on the screen when Ledger is on he overshadows Bale stuck in his rubber suit.
Jack Nicholson did a nice comic turn as the Joker, but Ledger’s Joker is a lot scarier and that is just from the trailers. Ledger is a talent that will be missed. Bale does another dead on portrayal of Batman, but Ledger is amazing.
