Fantasia Barrino’s American Idol Performance – See Video

Fantasia Barrino performed “Bore Me,” and it was hilarious. They cut to Simon for a reaction shot, and he basically looked dumbfounded as he sat there with his mouth wide open.

It was PRICELESS.

Frankly, Fantasia added the much needed spice to the show.

Yeah, Fantasia really done a lot with her career. How could anyone vote for her and look at her performance last night and say “I’m so happy I voted for Fantasia”. She has no class.

Tina | May 15th, 2008

Fantasia’s performance last night was an embarrasment to Amercian Idol. i think they should have cut to commercial. I have never see anything so awful on television. How in the world does she have a record contract or did she win an award?? I asked my husband last night “Do you think she is on drugs?” He said “I hope so, that would at least explain this.” Simon’s expression was priceless

FanTastic | May 15th, 2008

She stunned, she shocked, she rocked!! She’s got everybody “buzzing”. She is what you call an “entertainer”. So unpredictable! Go out on “google” and put in Fantasia You Tube and watch her perform “Always On my Mind”, or “I Believe” or “I Am Here”. Versatility

Allie | May 15th, 2008

Oh really, she’s done little with her career?

In June 2004, Fantasia released her debut single, “I Believe”, which later debuted at number-one on the Billboard Hot 100. This number-one debut made Fantasia the first artist in history to achieve this with a first single. On the sales chart, the single spent eleven consecutive weeks at number one.

Fantasia’s debut studio album, Free Yourself, was released in November 2004. It debuted at number eight on the Billboard 200 pop album chart, selling 240,000 copies in its first week. To date, it has sold over two million copies worldwide.

Through spring and winter of 2005, Barrino made many television appearances to promote her album. She played Aretha Franklin in an episode of the series American Dreams, singing “Respect”, guest voiced on The Simpsons episode “A Star Is Torn”, and guest starred as herself in a cameo role on the sitcom All of Us. She appeared three times as a musical guest on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. On March 25, 2005, Barrino performed at the thirty-sixth NAACP Image Awards in honor of Illinois Senator Barack Obama after winning the award for Outstanding Female Artist. In May 2005 Barrino went on her first tour with her own live band, with soul singers Kem and Rashaan Patterson.

February 2007, Fantasia appeared and performed on American Idol, and announced that she would be starring in the lead role of Celie in the Broadway musical The Color Purple, the hit musical based on the Pulitzer Prize winning novel by Alice Walker. After appearing on American Idol and the Oprah Winfrey Show, the musical received a boost of over two million in pre-ticket sales in one week. Leading up to her first performance on April 10, 2007 the play garnered a total of 6.5 million in pre-ticket sales.

While in the role, Fantasia earned rave reviews for her performance. Long-time Broadway Critic Clive Barnes of the NY Post went on to say “…there is some elemental quality to Fantasia that is either greatness or something close to it.”.

And that’s just a few highlights.

Portia | May 15th, 2008

I thought it was a great performance. A true artist will be true to themselves and Fantasia is all about being who she is….take it or leave it.

Car | May 15th, 2008

What the heck did Fantasia sing (screech) last night? That was horrible and an embarrassment to american idol!!

Reese | May 15th, 2008

Go Fantasia! She refuses to be what people think she should be. She is not a cookie cutter broad and she is going to GIVE you a reason to talk. RAW talent. RAW passion. The American dream walking: Be who you are and make them love you. GO FANTASIA GO!!

bernard | May 15th, 2008

Fantastically Fantasia! True great performances are always debated and what is sublime usually goes over many a head. Fantasia commanded the stage as a true entertainer. If you did or did not appreciate it, credit must be given to her for rocking Idol. And about Simon, please… He is so aware the camera is on him. Just watch his eyes.

Sandra | May 15th, 2008

It was absolutely wonderful to see such excitment on American Idol with Fantasia ROCKING THE HOUSE!! I loved it!!!! Absolutely loved it!!!!!

It is never boring when she is on stage. American Idol should be proud — she’s a great performer!!!

pinkslipper08 | May 15th, 2008

Fantasia was great last night! I think she did this in defiance of the AI machine that wants to dull down and bleach the very color out of the music during the show. People you know it’s true. Too many winners of a certain background so they had to cheat and make everything look fair when we all know that it’s not. They tried to do it to Fantasia too but the American people saw her talent and voted for that. She was the winner. Syesha may not have been the winner of the whole show but she is definately a better singer and perfomer than the two people she just left behind to bore us for another week, but I’ll be watching something else. I liked the guy from Australia, his rendition of “Dream On” was fantastic and he looked like the American Idol. I would have gladly watched if they had kept Carly and some of the other girls, but for Sy to lose to these two vanilla wafers is just ridiculus and reeks of politics. Maybe Fantasia was giving them the final, “You put me through alot because you’re corrupt, but I’m still here!” She could have done better but I still enjoyed her performance. Simon is a genious but sometimes he’s an idiot. Didn’t want Fantasia or Jennifer Hudson and look what they did with their careers! Besides, he supports a goup called “IL DIVO” its more like “ILL……”.

Gina | May 15th, 2008

Fantasia you rocked last night. Good for you!!!! You don’t have to prove anything to anybody. You already proved you can sing by winning American Idol, now you proved you are an Entertainer. Go, Go, Go!!!!!!!!!!

Sandra | May 15th, 2008

********What was she thinking!!! She should have picked another song for this show. I was looking just like Simon in disbelief and embarrassed.I was hoping they allowed the judges to comment Yes, I am very happy for her and she can be who she is but please show a little class!!! She had an opportunity for the whole world (all race) to see her shine and she did not. No, I’m not dogging her or anything like that but WOW!!!

Michelle | May 15th, 2008

YOu GO GIRL!!! I Loved it!! So energetic, full of life!! Fantasia rocked that show with her raw talent. Asked Britany Spears(who CANT sing) to give a performance like that! What she would probably kiss Madonna again to spice up her awful singing. Fantasia has soul and she probably makes more money that all you haters can ever make!!! GO FANTASIA GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mariangela | May 15th, 2008

I totally loved Fantasia last night, too! Her natural and exuberant energy, her performing talent, her originality and stage presence. She was awesome crazy FUN!!! She made the show worth watching. Otherwise, it would have been one of the most boring Idol nights ever. I really think Fantasia saved the show last night and gave everybody a lesson of what a true Idol should be about.

cet | May 15th, 2008

Fantasia was absolutely transcendent. Her performance was both edgy and provocative. She provided the creative abandon that has totally been missing from this season of American Idol. I can’t wait to see what she does next.

Mame | May 15th, 2008

Fantasia, Fantasia, Fantasia !!!
Poor thing u need to pray to God. That’s all I can say pray girl, please pray girl.

Jaki | May 15th, 2008

You know what … I was kinda looking like Simon Cowell as when I saw her performance. I absolutely LOVE Fantasia, I kinda appreciate her own unique, ghetto spectacular personal, funky style but I was kinda in shock at her running around that stage like that. I don’t know if I like it or hated it but I couldn’t turn away. It was strange and I am just speechless, but I love that she is an American Idol.

Jules | May 16th, 2008

It was interesting to watch Fantasia. But to be honest I was laughing throughout. It did seem rather a manic performance. haha

Charnae | May 16th, 2008

Fantasia was incredible last night!!!!! She is herself and did what she does best which is singing with all her heart I’m going to get that album 4 sure !!!!

Marla H | May 16th, 2008

Sorry folks but THAT’S MY HOMIE and SHE ROCKED THE HOUSE in FINE CACKALACKIE STYLE! Reppin’ for High Point, Greensboro and everywhere in between. If you’re not from there or you’ve never been there I guess you just wouldn’t understand. I really think Simon was agast about her hair…he knows Fantasia’s style- he picked her for a reason.

She puts her entire soul into every performance and THAT’S WHAT I WANT when I pay to see a show! She’s born of GOSPEL …you can’t hold that back- you can’t hold it in- when it has to come out it’s coming and she puts it down whether it’s Pop, R&B or gospel you WILL get a show. Call her ghetto, country, wild….I dont’ give a damn….she did the damn thang like only Fantasia can do it. She’s been so blessed to be where she is and to have accomplished so much from such humble beginnings and circumstances….she can’t help but give it to you like that. I LOVE FANTASIA and everything she is. Stay real for us PLEASE! God blessed her with that big ol voice and if you don’t like it…tune out (if you can). My mother is 60 and said her tour with R. Patterson and Kem was the best she’d seen since she was in her 30s. Jordin Sparks didn’t impress me on AI…but look at her now! She’s fabulous! She’s stressed her vocal cords and I pray she takes care of herself and recovers and goes on to be successful as well. I don’t think we’ll EVER have to worry about Fantasia’s vocal cords shutting down- that girl has pipes that rival the Mormon Tabernacle Organ…but her mother can sing her out of a room! Just think, they told Patti LaBelle to calm it down and hold back…imagine how boring R&B would have been had she listened to the nay-sayers. God bless her-that’s an entertainer! When Madonna can do an iota that….I’ll kiss her feet. No worries there!

Tulip2LoveU | May 16th, 2008

Okay, where to start…Fantasia has more talent than she knows what to do with. The young woman has a power house voice, a gift straight from God.

Now, to the bad news…That performance on Idol was nothing short of a hot azz mess. Fantasia looked out of control and like a raving lunatic. Screeching and squalling all over the place, dancing (and I loosely call it dancing..very loosely) around like craack head itching for his next fix..it was plain pitiful. Fantasia is too good for this. But as long as she has fans who worship everything she does, even the horribly bad performances like the one on Idol, you can’t expect that she will ever change. So, like it or not, I am almost certain Fantasia is coming up with her next spectacle of a performace. I am sure she is thinking up her next SHOCKER for us.

God help us all.

jj | May 17th, 2008

Fantasia was hot she rock the house with a soulful and rock hit to it, reminds of James Brown and other true entertainer. She was on point, and yes she was squalling, that what u do. And I thank her for not been a robot singer like most people are today. The girl can speed it up or she slow it down but that said she always bring it. The sister has it, and I am white. And Simon thank you for having Fantasia BACK. Because the the good Lord does.

dana | May 17th, 2008

Ryan- “what shade of red is that?!”
Fantasia- “i don’t know, ryan, i couldn’t read the label on the box.”
HAHAHAHAHAHA

Pree | May 19th, 2008

This lady needs to fire her stylist and watch re runs of her performance. UGH!!!! YUK!!!

ify | May 20th, 2008

fantasia was HOTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!! i couldnt take my eyes of the TV. she is an entertainer…she spiced american idol abit…hope they bring more like her in the finale

[...] Simon Cowell was on the Ellen DeGeneres Show and talked about Fantasia’s performance on American Idol. [...]

Ms. Young | May 20th, 2008

Fantasia, do your thing. It’s easy for people to sit back and say what were you thinking. The truth of the matter is “YOU DID NOT JUST WALK ON THAT STAGE AND SAY, IMA DO THIS FOR YAWL”. Everything was already on paper as to what you were do, however, keep the hair black, but yeah….that’s show biz.

Curt | May 25th, 2008

She WORKED IT! I still watch the vid. you Go Girl!

Kenny | June 6th, 2008

i think ya’ll are haterz, she was tight. ya’ll just jealous cuz ya’ll are probably butt ugly and aint as hawt as her. i rest my case.

ZenSista | June 11th, 2008

I missed Tasia’s performance on Idol. I had to take my husdand to work. But I knew she would turn it out with whatever she choose to do. She is an Entertainer. I am a child of the “70′s. I cut my teeth on performances by EWand F, Bootsy Collins, Funkadelics, Isley Bros, Chaka, Cindy Lauper, Tina Turner. If I am paying upwards of 100.00 bucks for a concert ticket. I don’t want to be put to sleep like at an Anita Baker concert etc. Entertain me. Kick off your shoes when the spirit hit you and roll around on the floor. You know who I’m talking about. Come on stage with a big white diaper on and sky high platforms. Land on the stage in a space ship and then come up out of the floor. That’s entertainment. Expect the unexpected. That’s why I keep buying the tickets. I can stay home and take a nap. You go Tasia! Keep on Rocking, be a songbird, be a lady, whatever you feel girl. Do your Thang. I watch the video whenever I need a lift. That’s what it’s about. Take me higher!

James | August 8th, 2008

I agree with all those who support her, she did her thang on stage, as if any of those with negative comments could have done any better, yall need to stop and think for a second.

FOCUSED2010 | August 12th, 2010

Fantasia’s life before Idol was a reality that goes on in our neighborhoods, someone you know neighborhoods, or someone in your own family, she was a real person with real teenage issues, she admitted that she thought she would be just another hood rat going no where, to be where she is and to think she would never be there? I believe Fantasia can care less what you think about her because I wouldnt
