By Allie | April 2, 2008

The popular teen novel ‘All-American Girl‘ by Meg Cabot, has been taken back off the shelf by Disney and is once again going into production.

The book was previously optioned in 2004 with Raven Symoné considered for the starring role. She would have played the part of Samantha Madison, a girl who gains nationwide attention after saving the life of the President.

After some dispute over casting decisions and the screenplay, the rights to the book were returned to Cabot. Now the movie is back on track, and rumor is that ‘Hannah Montana‘ star Miley Ray Cyrus, has been asked to play what would have been Symoné’s role.

She is currently set to star in a film version of her Disney television show, and Disney hopes to launch her into movies further by casting her in ‘All-American Girl’ with a release date of early 2010.

Miley is a great actress , I think she just rocks, All American Girl would be great for her, except if there’s a sequel cuz the book(sequel) has some sex scenes and all that stuff so that would be the a problem for her

Actually, Meg Cabot denies this on her site http://www.megcabot.com/diary and insists she still has the rights to the movie. Just to let you know.

She can’t! The part’s not right for her, she’s too…dainty to be Sam. Sam wears black 24/7 Miley might have convulsions if she does that.

I would barf is Miley would play the leading part of such a good book.. She would make it the worst acting-in-movie of the century! personally I do not think she dan sing, dance or act, so she better just LAY OFF this movie…
Im glad Meg Cabot denies this rumor though=)

    i’ll even give you reasons:
1 Sam wears all black and miley dosent
2 there personility dosen’t fit a tiny bit
3 sam donsen’t like spotlight too much but miley practically eats spotlight
4 sam has red hair and miley dosen’t
5 sam has realy curly hair and miley dosent
6 sam dosen’t have crooked teeth like miley
7 sam dosen’t have a southern accent like miley
    so over all
miley cyrus should NEVER be acting as sam and should never come on the movie!!!!

Yeah, I really don’t think that Miley Cyrus will fit the role of Samantha Madison in the production movie. Seriously, and personally, I think it’s because I just don’t feel her vibe.
But it’s just my opinion. And I REALLY DO THINK THAT SHE WILL never FIT THE BIG ROLE!!!
Raven Symone and Ellen Page would be good choices. Any young star will do but Miley Cyrus.

They are not making an All-American Girl movie yet. Meg Cabot wrote in her blog (http://www.megcabot.com/diary/) on Sunday, April 6, 2008 that she still owns film rights.

And even if they do make one eventually, I really hope Miley isn’t Sam. I have nothing against Miley; she just isn’t at all the right person for the role, in my opinion.

Miley Cyrus will completely ruin this role if she is to play Samantha. This is one of my favorite Meg Cabot books and I’d love to see it become a movie but not if Miley Cyrus is in the lead role.

  23. Alex Says:
    November 4th, 2008 at 6:55 pm

Me and my friend will have to bust a cap if Miley is the lead.
I mean, Miley Cyrus’s 15 minutes of fame is freakin OVER! Yea she did her little
    {Im a regular girl AND a pop star! yea!}
    Meg Cabot should make a casting call for ppl who are NOT famous so other ppl can be famous! {and so Miley can’t be in the movie unless she EARNS it!}

  24. Carla Says:
    November 10th, 2008 at 9:47 pm

It doesn’t matter if the person doing the role of samantha is famous or not. it’s just MILEY CYRUS?! dude STAY IN DISNEY CHANNEL!! or doing that pop singing u do. in my perspective samantha has always been one of the coolest characters i have read about. she is not afraid to be SARCASTIC, DIRECT, ARTISTIC, and totally hating the world!! miley cyrus? pff practically half brainwashed ppl follow her every move! what does she have to hate?! i’m sorry but i just hope they select a series actress, not some pop star just doing some random movie to get even more famous. i hope they pic the right actress, and actor for david ;) i’m going to go reread the book again!

I’m not that much of a Miley fan either, and personal if she were to take on the role of Samantha i’d of died and gone to production hell. But, who could that on the role of Samantha and David? and have the movie stay as faithful to the novella as possible.

Miley isnt too bad. They call actors, actors because they can act. Miley can easily change her personality to suit the character. What I want to know is…whos playing david?

there is NO WAY miley could pull off the role of samantha madison! they should have open auditions. samantha is supposed to be someone that no one has ever heard of. miley is just…wrong for that part.

no wayyyy. i loved that book and both raven and miley are not who i envisioned would play sam. i always imagined amy davidson, who played kerry in 8 simple rules to play her, but of course she’s too old now. what about willa holland?

  34. aisling Says:
    May 14th, 2009 at 3:50 am

also, i think Jesse Swenson would make a good David.

I was thinking, because The Princess Diaries film was so disappointing and nothing at all like the books, that there should be a TV series based on the books, like what was done with Gossip Girl. There have been 10 books based on Mia’s life from the age of 14 to 18. There are many aspiring young actresses out there who would fit into the role.
