Maura Tierney Asks ER Writers to Kill Her

When ‘ER’ wraps its 15th and final season in 2009, it will mark the end of Maura Tierney’s 10th year on the show.
Going from obstetrics nurse to doctor, her Abby Lockhart has weathered alcoholism, a heartbreaking reunion with her bipolar mom (guest Sally Field) and relationship woes with Luka, Carter and Luka again.
What’s your reaction to the news that ‘ER’ will end after next season?
I think it’s a great thing for the cast and the crew. And I think it is a great thing that John Wells and all the rest of the writers know that’s its ending and have time to prepare for it and finish it in a way that’s thoughtful.
What would be your dream scenario for how Abby’s storyline wraps up?
I want them to kill me. And they won’t. They refused to kill Abby. But no, I totally trust [the writers].
I’ve only watched ER, here and there — I simply don’t have time to sit and watch television much, but her character was one that stood out to me.
