American Idol Scandal- Veterans in the Ranks

It wouldn’t be American Idol without some scandal of some sort. No, unfortunately no one is claiming to have bedded Paula and no one is secret porn star or pregnant with Simon’s love child. Too bad really.
But the show ain’t what it used to be y’all. The lack of the whiskey tango factor is really a downfall. Where is the underdog to root for? Where is someone who lived with pimp in a Toyota Tercel for 3 years? That is the point really. Plucking someone from nowhere and making them a superstar in a heart warming, ratings grabbing rags to riches story is what we want to see.
Some of the contestants this year are beyond guilty of snobbery and even have already had their chance at a career in music. Carly Smithson, formerly Carly Hennessy, had a $2 million deal and blew it after the CD bombed. Her song “I’m Gonna Blow Your Mind” ….well blew frankly. It sold about 300 copies and MCA axed her. Hmmm…didn’t Randy Jackson scout for MCA back in the late 90’s? He sure did. Then being totally hypocritical he jumped on Simon for doing the same thing with Thomas Lowe.
“Simon ever try to sign your band?” Jackson quizzed Lowe on the show. Lowe answered, “No, but I believe Simon was working for BMG at the same time I was there.” Jackson got wide eyed and sniffed, “Well, Simon … small world.” Cowell looked embarrassed and Jackson scolded again, “Small world.” Lowe’s Idol run was cut short.
Michael Johns was lead singer of a band called “The Rising” that worked under the tutelage of Madonna’s Maverick record label. Madge dropped them after not-so-stellar sales. Kristy Lee Cook was under the wing of Britney Spears’ company before she saw the axe fall on her career. Even the youthful David Archuleta won Star Search about 4 years ago.
I smell a foul plot afoot. Or some deck stacking is going on. Either way I rather see some Simon Cowell/Paula Abdul herpes scandal.
