50th Annual Grammy Awards [2008] - Photos and Video

I am sure that while Amy Winehouse was winning Song of the Year, Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance just to name a few…she wished she was sitting at home spitting vodka at the tv while doing some online shopping for more eyeliner and yelling things like cheerio, wanker and supercalifragilisticexpialidocious instead of being on satellite. That is just how I picture her fuzzy feelings about the Grammys.
Kanye West was an early winner and as promised, the word “Mama” was shaved into his hair in tribute to the late Donda. He even gave a shout out to Winehouse during his acceptance speech for “Graduation.” This was before he scolded producers for playing the music to try and shut him up during his speech.
“It would be in good taste if you would stop the music.”
He continued on sans the “get the hell off the stage music.” I bet the Grammy Gods were thinking, “It would be in good taste if you didn’t wear accessories that needed to be plugged in.”
In true good taste Alicia Keys won for Best Female R&B Vocal. While her ’50s faux-hawk didn’t do much for my sensitivity to style she rocked “No One” while playing her piano and wearing skin tight leather pants. Meanwhile I sat at home in my sweat pants and “no one” cared. But then again I am not some 110 pound walking plethora of talent and hotness.
However probably the highlight of the evening is when Vince Gill won his award and the first words out of his mouth were…
“I just got an award given to me by a Beatle! Have you had that happen yet Kanye?”
This mild mannered country mother-fellow just went up a notch in my book.
