Forbes Magazine just released a list of the Most Overpaid Celebrities:

1. Russell Crowe - Crowe once ruled the arena with Gladiator, which cost $100 million to make and has earned $460 million in box office sales alone. But the past few year his fortunes have fallen with duds like Cinderella Man and A Good Year. Look for things to turn around for Crowe with the success of American Gangster, especially if he gets an Oscar nod.

2. Jim Carrey - Carrey has fared the worst of all the comedians on our list by earning $20 million on big-budgeted stinkers like Fun with Dick and Jane. He’s reportedly agreed to take no upfront salary on his next film, Yes Man.

3. Will Ferrell - Talladega Nights was a modest hit, but when paired with Stranger Than Fiction and Bewitched, Ferrell disappointed the studios that sign his $20 million paychecks.

4. Jennifer Lopez - J.Lo has the unhappy distinction of appearing in the only film on our list, Gigli, that didn’t even earn back its budget. Her $14 million paychecks for flops like Monster-in-Law and Shall We Dance didn’t help.

5. Adam Sandler - Sandler’s immature comedies used to mint money. But as the actor has tried to grow up, many of his fans have deserted him. Look for things to turn around. Sandler has signed with golden boy Judd Apatow for his next comedy.

6. Cameron Diaz - She returns big for the Shrek films but for her live-action movies, not so much. Diaz’s big paycheck weighed down modest hits like In Her Shoes and The Holiday.

7. Denzel Washington - The two-time Oscar winner got paid twice for American Gangster with his initial pay or play deal. Despite his standing on our list, Hollywood insiders say they’d gamble on Washington any day.

8. Will Smith - His films are blockbusters when he’s saving the world, but his smaller movies don’t perform as well. Smith’s $20 million paycheck makes it even harder for those movies to offer a good return.

9. Tom Cruise - His high salary and Mission: Impossible III’s relatively poor performance got him kicked off of the Paramount lot. Unfortunately for Cruise his United Artist deal doesn’t seem to be going well. His first film, Lions for Lambs, has earned only $45 million

10. Nicole Kidman - Despite her international fame and Best Actress Oscar, Kidman can’t seem to find a crowd-pleasing project. Bewitched earned $132 million worldwide but cost $84 million to make, including Kidman’s $12 million salary. The Golden Compass’ poor opening weekend could hurt her in future salary negotiations.
