Red Hot Chili Peppers suing Showtime
By Gwen B. | November 19, 2007
So before David Duchovny tried to further distance himself from ‘Mulder’ by leading the cast in Showtime’s ‘Californication‘, well, there was a Chili Peppers album by the same name.
So, RHCP are suing:
The suit, filed today in Los Angeles Superior Court, alleges Showtime and others violated federal trademark law. In the court documents, the band says the song “Californication” and the album achieved “extraordinary critical and commercial recognition,” and according to a statement by lead singer Anthony Kiedis, “‘Californication’ is the signature CD, video and song of the band’s career. For some TV show to come along and steal our identity is not right.”
You know what would be funny? If the Showtime rep was like, “Really? We had no idea!” That would make me giggle. Because I’m convinced the Chili Peppers own radio stations. That ish may have debuted in 1999 but stations still play it’s like the rap-rock gospel.
