Whoopi Says Manilow Will Appear On “The View” – Eventually
“The View” co-host Whoopi Goldberg said Barry Manilow is expected to appear on the show sometime in the future – and yes – even sit with Elisabeth Hasselbeck.
This morning, Whoopi said that Barbara Walters and Bill Geddie (both executive producers) turned down a demand from Manilow in which he would appear on “The View,” with the stipulation that Hasselbeck not be present. He was scheduled to appear on the show Tuesday to promote his new release, “Greatest Songs of the Seventies.”
Whoopi said today that Manilow didn’t appear after the show invoked its “you don’t sit with one, you sit with none” policy.
“I know there’s a lot of talk and everybody’s made some peace and Barry is going to come and he’s going to be with us at some point. It wasn’t yesterday. It wasn’t today, it will happen in the future.”
Said co-host Joy Behar:
“We practice free speech here.”
Yesterday, reports surfaced that Manilow refused to appear on the show if Hasselbeck was present because Manilow felt her conservative views were dangerous and offensive:
”I strongly disagree with her views. I think she’s dangerous and offensive. I will not be on the same stage as her.”
Said Hasselbeck:
“We operate, I think, as courageous women who sit here every day and love one another through our differences, not despite them and I think that’s a wonderful thing.”
