Camilla Not Attending Diana’s Memorial Service
By Consuela B. | August 26, 2007
At the Friday memorial service for Princess Diana, one familiar face will not be present - that of Camilla. Even though Prince Harry and Prince William invited the wife of Prince Charles, and even though she had initially accepted, Camilla has since changed her mind.
“I’m very touched to have been invited by Prince William and Prince Harry to attend the thanksgiving service for their mother Diana, Princess of Wales,” Camilla said in a statement explaining her decision.
“I accepted and wanted to support them, however, on reflection I believe my attendance could divert attention from the purpose of the occasion which is to focus on the life and service of Diana,” she said, adding: “I’m grateful to my husband, William and Harry for supporting my decision.”
Diana’s friend, Rosa Monckton, wrote in the Mail on Sunday that Camilla should not attend. She said that Camilla’s presence would be “deeply inappropriate,” and that Diana would have been “astonished”.
Even after death, drama surrounds Princess Diana.
