Zac Efron is Getting Footloose
Life is pretty good for Zac Efron these days. He’s the star of ‘High School Musical,’ he’s in ‘Hairspray’ which comes out July 20th, is rumored to be dating Vanessa Hudgens, and now may be in the remake of ‘Footloose.’
Variety reports that Paramount is developing a musical remake of the 1984 film Footloose with Zac as the lead and Kenny Ortega directing.
Ortega is in talks to helm and choreograph, and Efron is in talks to play Ren McCormack, the rebellious newcomer (originally played by Kevin Bacon) in a town where dancing has been banned.
The trade says the plan is to turn the project into a full-blown musical, which has already been done on Broadway. But with Zac as the lead, I’m sure there will be an audience for the film.
